Orienteering in Form VI

As part of our geography topic about maps and map reading, Form VI visited Wendover Woods for an adventure packed day of orienteering. Earlier on in the week we looked at map symbols that would help us read a map and also learnt how to use a compass to navigate a route. The children put this knowledge and their skills into action and were able to find most of the orienteering posts that were set out for them on the courses.

We avoided the bad weather and according to Mrs Powell’s GPS watch we managed a good 10 kilometres of walking and running. It was a fantastic day out and we were all grateful to have been on our first school trip for a long time.
