Responsibility

Helping our children to understand the importance and benefit of taking responsibility for their own actions, behaviour and learning is a fundamental part of the Griffin House experience. From the youngest children to the senior pupils, they are carefully and sensitively given increasing responsibility within the classroom and around the school. From classroom monitors, librarians, Sport, Music and House Captains through to our Head Boy and Head Girl; all children play an important role in the life of Griffin House School.

School Council

Each year senior pupils have the opportunity to join the Student Council. Their role is to liaise with and represent every year group in the school, ensuring that all children have a clear voice at Griffin House School. They meet weekly with the Headteacher to discuss their thoughts, views and ideas. Together with many members of the school community they work each year on small projects to improve the experience for children at school and to leave a positive legacy behind them.

Eco Team

Griffin House School cares passionately about the environment and is proud to be an Eco School. In recent years, the team have worked through the stages of the bronze & silver self-accredited stepping stones, and we are now working towards the Green Flag Award.

The school Eco Team is made up of senior pupils. The Team meet regularly to think of ways to care for the environment and the world around them. They discuss ideas for recycling, reducing and re-using, make decisions about areas to focus on, monitor results and help create a whole-school action plan.

Pupils in the Eco Team are passionate about ways in which they can make a difference. The decisions the team make and the discussions they have are recorded as minutes at each team meeting. The Eco Team are very proud of their work within school and the local community which has helped to develop our Eco-Schools philosophy.

As an Eco School (http://www.eco-schools.org.uk/) we are part of an international group of schools working towards education for sustainable development within local and global communities. We believe passionately that we need to care for our environment and that our children are the ones who will be most affected in the future by our actions today. The scheme is rooted in a desire to help our children become effective citizens by encouraging them to take responsibility for the future of their own environment and ultimately our planet.
